Fantastical fusion of flowers and fashion in Warwickshire
Florists in Birmingham, Florists in Coventry and the rest of the UK’s midlands have stepped up to the plate of the challenge to fuse flowers with fashion in Warwickshire, having transformed their floral designs into trend-setting garments and flowery accessories.
Innovation is at the heart of what the region’s flowery femmes have devised when they brought flowers and fashion together in a beautiful blooming union. Two ladies, one named Carol and one named Sharon, who are devoted florists who work at Interflora florists, Jacqueline the Florist in Southam, are the dream-weavers that promise to bring flowers to the forefront of fashion.
Together, they have created a stunning dress that’s no less than sure to tantalise flower and fashion lovers alike, donning flowers of all kinds, from the humble chrysanthemum to the iconic rose. Comprised predominantly of green flowers and foliage and an all-white skirt, the dress was also tactically sparsely decorated with a selection of of red flowers to really bring the dress to life.
Their floral fashion escapades don’t end there, though, as Sharon and Carol are looking to collaborate once more come the festive season. The Christmas period sees many a traditional and contemporary floral design used in homes, shops and workplaces to spread a little cheer in the dead of winter – but, but rare are they assigned to warming up the wardrobe.
Sharon said: “We were looking for a new challenge and wanted something amazing to put in our window. We loved creating this dress and had a lot of people come in and admire it.”
“We want to do something spectacular this year. Once the creative juices get flowing, we’ll be ready to create something really special.”
And a similar story appeared up North this year, too. Bury’s Janet Hodgson helped the outdoor shopping centre celebrate its first anniversary by creating a stunning dress entirely out of – yep, you guessed it: flowers.
While there were a few teething problems due to the sheer weight of the posies on the specially-constructed frame, fears of floral failure were soon allayed when its persistent creator, Ms Hodgson, managed to reinforce it using only tent poles and chicken wire. This time, her dress comprised of a superb selection of orchids, hydrangeas, roses, germini which, of course, still managed to wow the crowds.
She told the Interflora blog: “I have to admit that when I first saw it on the model it looked so fabulous that I cried! It was a very proud moment for me. It was such fun!”
